Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) expressed concern Sunday over President Donald Trump’s decision to suspend U.S. military aid and intelligence sharing with Ukraine, warning it could have severe consequences.
“I am worried about cutting off intelligence and weapons to Ukraine as long as the fighting is going on,” Graham said on Fox News Sunday. “If we pull the plug on Ukraine, it’d be worse than Afghanistan.”
Trump’s pause in assistance followed a tense Oval Office meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, where Trump and Vice President JD Vance criticized Zelensky for being “ungrateful”. The dispute also stalled negotiations on a U.S.-Ukraine rare earth minerals deal.
With Republicans urging Trump to reverse course, Graham announced he will introduce new sanctions targeting Russia’s banking and energy sectors if Moscow refuses to negotiate a ceasefire.
“We should sanction the hell out of them,” Graham said, vowing to push sanctions legislation next week.
