Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) stated President-elect Trump seeks a Middle East ceasefire and hostage release before Jan. 20. “He wants the killing to stop and the fighting to end,” Graham told Axios after visiting the region.
Trump’s transition team has been briefed on a Biden-brokered ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah, following over a year of conflict. Amos Hochstein, Biden’s lead negotiator, outlined the deal’s terms and U.S. commitments.
Trump has urged Israel to resolve its war quickly, saying in April, “Get it over with fast… we have to get back to peace.” He is viewed as a close ally of Israeli PM Netanyahu, accused of delaying talks tied to releasing 100 hostages taken during Hamas’s Oct. 7 attack.
Graham stressed that Trump must address Gaza negotiations before pursuing broader foreign policy goals like countering Iran.
