Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) urged the Senate to investigate former President Trump’s decision to end personal security details for ex-national security adviser John Bolton and former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo. Bolton had been under Secret Service protection due to an Iranian threat on his life.
Speaking on CNN’s State of the Union, Graham stressed the importance of protecting officials who confront adversaries like Iran, stating, “We cannot leave them hanging.” He added that Senate Intelligence Committee Chair Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) confirmed the threats against Bolton were credible.
Graham warned that removing protections could deter future officials from serving. “If something happens to these people, it reflects poorly on recruitment and on Trump’s decisions,” he said. Graham called for the Senate to determine the best path forward to ensure such officials remain protected.
