Several Republicans in Congress have condemned PBS for a Pride Month message posted by “Sesame Street,” accusing the network of “grooming” children. The post, shared on June 1, featured a rainbow-themed illustration of the show’s characters with the message: “On our street, everyone is welcome… Happy #PrideMonth!”

The Republican Study Committee, a House GOP coalition, responded with a meme referencing Sen. Bernie Sanders and called on PBS to “stop grooming children.” Other Republicans, including Rep. Mary Miller (R-Ill.), Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah), and Rep. Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.), echoed the accusation and called for defunding PBS.

This controversy adds to ongoing tensions between the network and the Trump administration, which recently ordered an end to federal funding for PBS and NPR, citing partisan bias. PBS has filed a lawsuit challenging the order. The administration has also pursued policies affecting LGBTQ rights, including banning gender-affirming care for minors and reinstating the military ban on transgender service members.

Neither PBS nor “Sesame Street” has issued a public response.
