Republican Rep. Don Bacon criticized colleagues opposing further Ukraine funding, suggesting they favor a Russian victory in the ongoing war. He voiced these concerns amid House Speaker Mike Johnson’s efforts to advance foreign aid bills, including Ukraine funding.
Some right-wing House members criticized this move, arguing for domestic-focused funding. Despite this, Bacon emphasized Ukraine’s aspirations for freedom and alignment with the West.
Johnson faces pressure from House conservatives, including Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, who introduced a motion to remove him as Speaker over his handling of government spending and Ukraine aid. Despite this, Bacon expressed confidence in Johnson’s continued Speakership, praising his character and intentions.
Rep. Dan Crenshaw echoed this sentiment, suggesting those supporting the motion to vacate are siding with Russia.
