Rep. John Rose (R-Tenn.) announced plans to introduce a House resolution condemning President Biden’s recent comments, which he claims likened supporters of former President Trump to “garbage.” According to a draft of the resolution shared with Fox News, Rose intends for the House to formally censure Biden for this perceived slight.
The White House has clarified that Biden’s words were directed at the tone of remarks from comedian Tony Hinchcliffe at a Trump rally in Madison Square Garden, where Hinchcliffe reportedly joked about Puerto Rico as “a floating island of garbage.” During a call with Voto Latino, Biden had said, “The only garbage I see floating out there is his [Trump’s] demonization of Latinos,” in response to this rhetoric. Biden later clarified on social media that he was referring to “hateful rhetoric” about Puerto Rico and not labeling Trump supporters.
Rose argued Biden’s comments parallel Hillary Clinton’s controversial “deplorables” remark during the 2016 election, which many Trump supporters found offensive.
