People in 34 countries have more confidence in President Joe Biden than former President Donald Trump, according to a Pew Research Center poll. The poll shows a median of 43% trust Biden in world affairs compared to 28% for Trump. Biden is viewed more positively in 24 countries, while Trump leads in Hungary and Tunisia, and they are tied in eight others.
Despite this, faith in U.S. democracy is waning globally. A median of 54% have positive views of the U.S., but 40% believe its democracy is no longer a good example for other countries. Only 21% think it remains a good example, while 22% say it never was. Confidence in Biden has declined since his first year but remains higher than in Trump. Biden’s handling of the Israel-Hamas war received the lowest confidence ratings.
Among five leaders rated, French President Emmanuel Macron had the highest confidence, and Russian President Vladimir Putin the lowest. Confidence in Biden remains higher than in Trump, particularly in Europe and Latin America. Africa shows some of Trump’s best numbers, with Hungary and Tunisia expressing slightly more confidence in him than Biden.
