Rudy Giuliani has settled Dominion Voting Systems’ $1.3 billion defamation lawsuit over his promotion of false claims about the 2020 presidential election, according to court filings.
Dominion and Giuliani, a former attorney for Donald Trump, agreed to dismiss all claims “with prejudice,” meaning they cannot be refiled. The filing noted that each side will cover its own legal costs. The financial details of the settlement were not disclosed.
Dominion sued Giuliani in 2021, alleging he repeatedly spread baseless theories that its voting machines rigged the election in Joe Biden’s favor. The company said Giuliani continued making defamatory claims even after courts rejected them.
The settlement comes amid Giuliani’s mounting legal and financial troubles. Earlier this month, a New York judge ordered him to pay $1.36 million in unpaid legal fees. In January, he reached another undisclosed settlement with two Georgia election workers whom a jury had awarded $148 million in damages over his false accusations.
Dominion has pursued multiple defamation cases tied to election fraud claims, including a $787 million settlement with Fox News in 2023.
