Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp expressed gratitude for the federal government’s support in response to Hurricane Helene, contradicting former President Trump’s claims that Kemp had trouble reaching President Biden. Kemp confirmed that Biden called him Sunday, offering assistance. Kemp said, “He just said, ‘Hey, what do you need?’… We’ve had FEMA embedded with us since, you know, a day or two before the storm hit.”

White House homeland security adviser Liz Sherwood-Randall also confirmed the call, stating Biden would remain available for further assistance. Trump, during a Monday visit to Valdosta, Georgia, criticized the federal response, claiming, “The governor’s doing a very good job… He’s having a hard time getting the president on the phone.”

Hurricane Helene made landfall as a Category 4 storm, with around 600 people still unaccounted for across several states. Vice President Harris cut short a West Coast campaign trip to return to Washington for a FEMA briefing and has been in communication with affected governors, including Kemp.
