California Gov. Gavin Newsom filed a $787 million defamation lawsuit against Fox News on Friday, accusing the network of misrepresenting a call between him and President Trump. The suit echoes the amount Fox paid to settle with Dominion Voting Systems in 2023.

Newsom alleges Jesse Watters aired deceptively edited footage suggesting Trump had consulted with him before sending National Guard troops to Los Angeles during anti-ICE protests. Newsom denies such a call occurred and said on X, “No more lies.”

The lawsuit follows escalating tensions between Trump and Newsom. Earlier this month, Newsom sued the administration to block the use of U.S. Marines and the National Guard at California protests. Trump had bypassed the governor to deploy forces and has repeatedly threatened California’s federal funding and regulatory authority.

The White House, Fox News, and Newsom’s office have not publicly commented on the lawsuit.
