WASHINGTON, D.C. — Former Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) and media personality Laura Loomer attended a recently credentialed Pentagon press briefing on Tuesday, a sign of the changing landscape for press access under the Trump administration. The Pentagon has implemented a more restrictive press policy, leading many mainstream outlets to step back and creating openings for right-leaning and pro-Trump media figures.

During the briefing, Gaetz, now hosting a show for One America News Network, inquired about the possibility of U.S. military involvement in Venezuela if President Nicolás Maduro were to flee due to ongoing pressure over alleged drug trafficking. Defense Department press secretary Kingsley Wilson responded that the Pentagon has contingency plans for various scenarios and is currently focused on addressing “narco-terrorists.”

The Pentagon is facing criticism from both sides of the aisle after reports surfaced about a September operation in the Caribbean that involved two strikes on an alleged drug boat, with the second strike reportedly killing survivors from the first. Wilson defended these actions, stating that each strike aims to “save American lives.”

Loomer raised questions about the U.S. relationship with Qatar and the ongoing plans to sell fighter jets to the country. Wilson affirmed that the Pentagon looks forward to continuing its partnership with Qatar and was not aware of any changes in existing agreements, stressing that national security is the top priority.

The briefing showcased the changing dynamics in the Pentagon pressroom, with the Trump administration credentialing several conservative and MAGA-aligned media figures who had not previously covered the department on-site.
