Longtime GOP pollster Frank Luntz noted a significant shift in the 2024 election polls toward Vice President Kamala Harris, attributing her rise to an “intensity advantage” over former President Donald Trump. In an interview on CNBC’s “Squawk Box,” Luntz said Harris’s recent surge in enthusiasm has energized a segment of the electorate that might not have voted if President Biden had remained the nominee.
Luntz highlighted Harris’s ability to attract voters who are disillusioned with both Trump and Biden, potentially reshaping the overall electoral pool. He suggested that this shift could impact downballot races, giving Democrats a stronger chance to win both the Senate and the House.
Luntz also pointed out that while issues and conditions might favor Trump, Harris’s personal attributes are winning over voters. He noted that young women, particularly under 27, are overwhelmingly supporting Harris, leaving few undecided voters in this demographic.
Luntz criticized Trump for actions that seem to undermine his own appeal, such as publicly supporting the firing of union workers—a stance that may alienate some of his supporters. Luntz concluded that Trump’s actions could be seen as “political suicide,” baffling even his wealthy backers.
