The White House has withdrawn President Donald Trump‘s nomination of Dr. Janette Nesheiwat, a frequent Fox News medical contributor, for U.S. surgeon general. The decision, confirmed by two sources, came just ahead of her scheduled Senate confirmation hearing.
Nesheiwat, a New York urgent care director and vocal Trump supporter, has been criticized by far-right commentator Laura Loomer, who called her a “pro-COVID vaccine nepo appointee.” Loomer also highlighted an ongoing medical malpractice case and noted Nesheiwat received her degree from the American University of the Caribbean, not the U.S.-based school she had previously claimed.
The withdrawal follows the earlier rejection of Trump’s CDC nominee Dave Weldon, who faced scrutiny over vaccine skepticism.
Nesheiwat would have overseen the 6,000-member U.S. Public Health Service Corps and issued national health advisories. Her removal underscores mounting political pressure over health appointments in Trump’s second term.
Following the withdrawal, President Trump tapped best-selling author and wellness influencer Dr. Casey Means in place of his initial pick.
