Retired Lt. Gen. Russel Honoré raised concerns about Elon Musk’s ties to China and Russia, suggesting potential national security risks due to Musk’s business dealings and proximity to President-elect Donald Trump. Writing in a New York Times op-ed, Honoré highlighted Musk’s extensive business interests in China, including Tesla’s Shanghai factory, which operates under Chinese laws that could compel disclosure of sensitive information.

Musk’s reported communications with Russian President Vladimir Putin and praise for China’s policies, including a controversial suggestion on Taiwan’s status, further alarmed Honoré. He also noted Musk’s companies, Tesla and SpaceX, have secured $15.4 billion in U.S. government contracts, raising scrutiny over their strategic importance.

Honoré called for investigations into Musk’s connections, emphasizing the need to protect national security. Democratic senators have previously requested a federal probe into Musk’s SpaceX contracts following reports of his interactions with Putin. Honoré urged officials to explore alternatives to SpaceX for U.S. launches and reconsider Musk’s security clearance if investigations reveal deeper ties to foreign adversaries.
