Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes announced Monday that Jenna Ellis, a former attorney for Donald Trump, is now cooperating in the prosecution of the “fake electors” case related to the 2020 election. As part of the agreement, prosecutors have dropped the charges against Ellis.
Ellis, who had previously pleaded guilty in the Georgia election interference case, was a senior legal adviser to Trump during his attempts to overturn the 2020 election results. The cooperation agreement, signed Monday, indicates that Ellis provided information to prosecutors on June 17.
“This agreement represents a significant step forward in our case,” Mayes stated, expressing gratitude for Ellis’s cooperation.
Lead prosecutor Nicholas Klingerman hinted that more plea deals could be forthcoming. “I think, like in any other case, we’ll make plea offers,” he said.
The “fake electors” case involves 11 Trump supporters who falsely claimed to be Arizona’s electors despite Joe Biden winning the state. These individuals face charges of fraud, forgery, and conspiracy. Mayes remains optimistic about the ongoing prosecution, stating, “We’re making progress in the case, and we feel good about the case.”
