Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier has ordered all public-use airports to report aircraft capable of geoengineering or weather modification under a new law signed by Gov. Ron DeSantis last month. Violations may result in third-degree felony charges and fines of up to $100,000.

The legislation, S.B. 56, took effect July 1 and prohibits the intentional release of chemicals into the atmosphere for the purpose of altering climate, weather, or temperature. Monthly reporting to the Florida Department of Transportation will be mandatory starting October 1. Uthmeier warned airports that failure to comply could jeopardize state funding.

Uthmeier linked recent flash floods in Texas to possible weather modification and called sunshine Florida’s “most valuable resource.” His statements echo long-running conspiracy theories about “chemtrails,” which the EPA has dismissed as unfounded.

Cloud seeding, a practice used in some states to induce precipitation, was cited by the Government Accountability Office as a scientifically recognized form of weather intervention.

Marjorie Taylor Greene also announced plans for federal legislation criminalizing atmospheric weather-altering activity.
