Republicans have overtaken Democrats in voter registration in Miami-Dade County, Florida, marking a historic shift in a county long considered a Democratic stronghold. Republicans now hold 464,370 registered voters (34%) to Democrats’ 440,790 (32.27%), while voters with no party affiliation total 460,783 (33.73%).

The milestone follows routine voter roll maintenance that removed 172,747 inactive voters from the rolls, according to Decision Desk HQ data scientist Michael Pruser. Republicans gained a net 38,000 voters in the process.

The shift builds on recent GOP momentum: Donald Trump flipped the county in the 2024 presidential election for the first time in 36 years. Florida Republicans now enjoy a statewide registration advantage of over 1.29 million.

“This victory is a testament to Republican leadership and grassroots power,” the Florida GOP said. Gov. Ron DeSantis added, “Nobody would have predicted this ten years ago.”
