Rep.-elect Sarah McBride (D-Del.), set to become the first openly transgender member of Congress, stated she would follow House rules even if she disagrees with them, after Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.) introduced a resolution to ban transgender women from using women’s restrooms in the Capitol. House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) confirmed the ban would be part of the House rules package.

Mace’s proposal also aims to extend similar restrictions to any publicly funded property, and she indicated the resolution targets McBride, though McBride will not take office until January. McBride dismissed the controversy, focusing on addressing her constituents’ concerns.

“This effort to distract from the real issues hasn’t affected my preparation to serve Delaware,” McBride said. She emphasized her commitment to bipartisan cooperation and serving in the 119th Congress.
