A federal investigation has cleared FEMA of wrongdoing after Republicans accused the agency of denying disaster aid to Trump supporters following hurricanes in Florida last year. The probe found “no evidence” that FEMA leadership ordered staff to avoid pro-Trump homes, as alleged by a fired FEMA worker.

Marn’i Washington, a FEMA employee, claimed she was told to skip houses displaying Trump support during disaster relief in Lake Placid, Florida. Her actions were condemned by then-FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell, who fired Washington and called the incident isolated.

Florida’s former attorney general sued Criswell, alleging political bias. But a settlement filed Monday showed the case was dropped without penalties after the investigation, led by FEMA’s Office of Professional Responsibility, found no systemic misconduct.

Three other FEMA employees were dismissed after the agency’s internal review. The Justice Department disclosed the findings in a settlement document ending the case. Washington still faces a Hatch Act complaint for alleged political activity while on duty.

FEMA’s Trump-appointed acting chief said employees will receive additional training to avoid any future incidents.
