FBI Director Kash Patel announced a “breakthrough” in the agency’s ongoing investigation into Dr. Anthony Fauci, revealing during a podcast with Joe Rogan that agents recently recovered phones Fauci used during the early stages of the COVID pandemic under Donald Trump.

Patel warned critics not to assume the devices hold damning evidence. “Maybe it’s deleted, maybe it’s not,” he said. “But at least we found it… it is of public importance.”

Trump and allies have accused Fauci of misleading the public on pandemic origins and responses. Before leaving office, President Biden granted Fauci a broad pardon covering his government service between 2014 and the end of Biden’s term.

Sen. Rand Paul previously demanded Fauci’s imprisonment, claiming he was involved in gain-of-function research in China. Fauci has denied suppressing lab-leak theories and testified that interventions likely saved millions of lives, though he acknowledged debate over their duration.

Patel stressed the FBI’s goal is truth, not assumption. “My opinion is irrelevant,” he said. “It only matters what I can prove.”
