FBI Director Kash Patel said Monday the bureau recovered forensic evidence of a destroyed note allegedly written by Tyler Robinson, the suspect in the shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. Patel revealed the details during an interview on “Fox and Friends,” saying the note read: “I have the opportunity to take out Charlie Kirk, and I’m going to take it.”

According to Patel, investigators reconstructed the message through forensic analysis and interviews after finding evidence at Robinson’s home. He added that DNA was collected from a screwdriver and a towel believed to have been used to wrap the gun tied to the shooting.

Later, FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino told Fox the agency is examining whether Robinson had an extended network that provided support. “If this was a larger effort … whether it be financial [or] someone who knew the specifics … our team, along with our state and local partners, are looking into that,” Bongino said.

Robinson, 22, was arrested last week in connection with Kirk’s assassination but has refused to cooperate with investigators. He has not yet been formally charged, though authorities said he is being held on suspicion of aggravated murder.
