The FBI has joined the NYPD’s search for the gunman who killed UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in Manhattan. Offering a $50,000 reward, the FBI hopes to locate the suspect, who fatally shot Thompson outside a hotel early Wednesday.
Authorities released the suspect’s photos and collected DNA evidence, including a water bottle and protein bar wrapper, alongside a cellphone and fake ID believed to belong to the suspect. Law enforcement suspects the killer left New York City via bus, with surveillance capturing him at the Port Authority terminal after traveling by taxi and bike.
“This was a brazen, targeted attack,” NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch stated, confirming the shooting wasn’t random. Messages such as “deny,” “defend,” and “depose” were reportedly inscribed on bullet casings.
Health companies are heightening security, with some removing executives’ photos and switching to virtual meetings due to fears of similar attacks.
