Enrique Tarrio, former leader of the Proud Boys, has requested a pardon from President-elect Donald Trump. Tarrio, 42, was sentenced to 22 years in prison for seditious conspiracy in connection with the January 6 Capitol riot—the longest sentence among defendants. Though not physically present at the Capitol, prosecutors argued Tarrio coordinated the attack from outside Washington, D.C.
In a letter to Trump, Tarrio’s attorney, Nayib Hassan, described him as “a young man with an aspiring future” and emphasized his family’s support. The letter expressed hope that a pardon would allow Tarrio to reintegrate into society and contribute constructively.
The Trump transition team has yet to respond to the request. Tarrio’s conviction was highlighted by Attorney General Merrick Garland, who called him a central figure in the attack aimed at stopping Joe Biden’s certification as President.
