Former Defense Department adviser Colin Carroll criticized Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth on Monday, portraying him as paranoid and consumed by his public image.
Appearing on “The Megyn Kelly Show,” Carroll said Hegseth has become increasingly focused on internal leak investigations since the controversy surrounding his use of the Signal app. Carroll estimated Hegseth spends half of his day investigating leaks.
He also described Hegseth as temperamental, saying the secretary alternates between effective leadership and intense agitation over minor details. Carroll said Hegseth often films his workouts to counter criticisms of being undisciplined.
Carroll’s remarks follow the dismissals of himself, senior adviser Dan Caldwell, and deputy chief of staff Darin Selnick. Former Pentagon spokesman John Ullyot also resigned, citing turmoil at the department.
President Trump offered Hegseth public support Monday, saying, “He’s gonna get it together.”
Meanwhile, former staffers released a statement criticizing their treatment, claiming they were never informed about the nature of any investigation.
