MISSOURI — Newly reviewed emails tied to Jeffrey Epstein reference a now-closed Missouri boarding school that has faced years of abuse allegations, drawing renewed attention to the state’s “troubled teen” industry. In a 2018 exchange, an Epstein associate asked for input on several schools, including Wings of Faith Academy, a Christian facility for girls that later shut down in 2022.
Although the school was not ultimately selected, its inclusion in Epstein-related correspondence has intensified scrutiny of a broader network of faith-based residential programs in Missouri. Former students and attorneys allege these facilities have long operated with limited oversight despite repeated complaints of physical and psychological abuse.
Wings of Faith operated alongside Agape Ranch, another controversial program that has been the subject of lawsuits and legislative hearings. Survivors have described harsh discipline, deprivation, and inadequate medical care, while advocates argue the state has historically failed to enforce sufficient protections.
Missouri lawmakers have enacted some reforms, including registration requirements for certain facilities, but critics say gaps remain. New legislation under consideration would expand legal options for abuse survivors, while other proposals could loosen restrictions on placing foster children in unlicensed religious facilities, raising further concerns about oversight.
