An Emerson College poll has shown that a significant majority of supporters of former GOP presidential candidate Nikki Haley prefer President Joe Biden over former President Donald Trump for the upcoming November election. Following Haley’s exit from the GOP primary, 63% of her supporters indicated they would back Biden, while only 27% leaned toward Trump, leaving 10% undecided.

Biden has openly welcomed Haley’s supporters, contrasting Trump’s approach of intensifying his critique of Haley, his former United Nations ambassador. Biden emphasized the inclusivity of his campaign, while Haley, in her suspension speech, highlighted the need for Trump to “earn” the votes of her base, stressing the importance of expanding the conservative cause rather than alienating potential supporters.

Interestingly, the poll also revealed that 52% of Haley’s supporters had voted for Biden in the 2020 election. The overall race between Trump and Biden appears tightly contested, with both securing 45% support nationally. However, Biden edges out with a slight lead when undecided voters are prompted to choose, resulting in a 51% to 49% advantage in his favor. The introduction of third-party candidates, notably independent Robert F. Kennedy Jr., gives Trump a marginal lead.

The survey indicates that the economy, immigration, and threats to democracy are the top concerns for voters. Biden’s job approval stands at 41%, with a 48% disapproval rate among respondents.

This poll, conducted on March 5-6, surveyed 1,350 registered voters nationally and has a margin of error of 2.6 percentage points, suggesting that voter sentiments may shift as the election draws closer.
