Elon Musk sharply criticized President Trump’s flagship tax-and-spending package Tuesday, calling the House-passed legislation a “disgusting abomination” and warning it would bankrupt the country.
Musk, previously a top Trump donor and adviser, broke his public silence on the “One, Big, Beautiful Bill,” tweeting: “Shame on those who voted for it. This massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill … will massively increase the already gigantic budget deficit.”
The Congressional Budget Office estimates the legislation could add $2.3 to $5 trillion to the deficit over 10 years, due to tax cut extensions and new spending on military and border security. The White House disputes these projections, claiming future economic growth will compensate for the added costs.
Despite leaving his official role, Musk pledged to remain an informal adviser. His criticism aligns him with GOP fiscal hawks like Sens. Rand Paul and Ron Johnson, though Trump has previously attacked lawmakers opposing the bill.
Senate leaders aim to finalize the legislation by July 4.
