The Harris campaign and Democratic groups are ramping up efforts to get supporters to vote early, focusing on groups like young voters who are seen as less reliable on Election Day. Democrats hope a strong early-vote turnout will offset the GOP’s usual Election Day advantage.
In Georgia, around 310,000 votes were cast on a single day this week, more than doubling the numbers seen in 2020 and 2022. Democratic strategist Basil Smikle believes early voting helps Democrats, pointing to former President Trump’s past criticism of early voting methods like drop boxes, though Trump has shown less opposition this year.
Vice President Harris and her surrogates have been visiting key battleground states, encouraging voters to cast ballots early. Harris urged voters at a rally in Erie, Pennsylvania, to “make your plan to vote” and emphasized the benefits of voting early. Meanwhile, Trump has adjusted his approach, urging Republicans in states like Georgia and Arizona to vote early.
Democrats believe high turnout benefits their candidates and have been working to bank early votes, ensuring fewer voters face obstacles on Election Day. However, experts caution against reading too much into early-vote data, noting that patterns can shift over time.
