Donald Trump has criticized Georgia prosecutor Fani Willis after she admitted to having a relationship with another lawyer involved in the election-interference case.

Fulton County District Attorney Willis and special prosecutor Nathan Wade both said on Friday that they’d had a romantic relationship, which developed after he was hired to work on Trump’s case. According to a motion filed in court, Wade confirmed that “in 2022, District Attorney Willis and I developed a personal relationship in addition to our professional association and friendship.” Newsweek has contacted Willis via email for comment.

Wade was hired to work on the case in November 2021. Since Trump and his co-defendants were indicted in August 2023, Wade has led the team of prosecutors. Trump has denied any wrongdoing all 13 charges related to racketeering and conspiring to change the outcome of the 2020 election, which he lost to President Joe Biden. The former president has repeatedly said that the case is part of a political witch hunt aimed at derailing his bid for the White House.

Now, Trump has taken to Truth Social to air his views on the revelation. “Fani Willis, the D.A. of Fulton County, just admitted to having a sexual relationship with the Prosecutor she, in consultation with the White House and DOJ [Department of Justice], appointed to ‘GET PRESIDENT DONALD J. TRUMP,'” he wrote on the social-media platform.

Allegations regarding a relationship between Willis and Wade first emerged when Michael Roman, a co-defendant in the case, accused the duo of impropriety and financially gaining from their relationship. Trump filed his own motion against Willis following Roman.

Last week, the Republican had cited the relationship in a motion to dismiss the election-interference charges against him. It alleged that Willis has personally profited from the case against him, claiming Wade was paid in excess of $650,000 and that he used the earnings to pay for them to take vacations together, according to a report by The Associated Press.

“By going after the most high level person, and the Republican Nominee, she was able to get her ‘lover’ much more money, almost a Million Dollars, than she would be able to get for the prosecution of any other person or individual. THAT MEANS THAT THIS SCAM IS TOTALLY DISCREDITED & OVER!” Trump’s post added.
