The Department of Justice (DOJ) assured FBI employees it would not target those who “simply followed orders” in the Jan. 6 investigations, as acting Deputy Attorney General Emil Bove pushes a review of agents involved in prosecuting rioters. The statement follows a large-scale purge of FBI personnel and Bove’s demand for a list of all agents who worked on the cases.
Bove, a former personal defense lawyer for President Trump, has accused the FBI of being “weaponized” and criticized FBI leadership for resisting his directive. He then issued a survey to all employees to document their roles in the cases.
Sen. Mark Warner (D-Va.) revealed a memo in which Bove linked leadership terminations to the FBI’s involvement in Trump’s criminal cases. Lawsuits have been filed to block the release of survey results, citing fears agents could be targeted by Trump allies or pardoned Jan. 6 offenders.
