Democratic National Committee Chair Ken Martin on Saturday reaffirmed his demand that Vice Chair David Hogg either pledge neutrality in party primaries or resign. The ultimatum follows controversy sparked by Hogg’s recent vow to support challengers against “ineffective” Democratic incumbents.
“Party officers have one job: to be fair stewards of a process that invites every Democrat to the table,” Martin wrote on X, formerly Twitter. He emphasized that neutrality ensures fairness and protects the DNC from internal favoritism.
The 25-year-old March for Our Lives co-founder, now a DNC officer, proposed a compromise — staying in his role while being barred from accessing sensitive internal information if he continued backing challengers. Martin rejected the proposal.
“When you lead the institution that calls balls and strikes, you don’t get to also swing the bat,” Martin said.
He stressed that neutrality rules aren’t aimed at stifling debate or primaries, but ensuring a level playing field. “These reforms weren’t about any one person,” Martin added, promising to codify neutrality for all party leaders in DNC rules.
