Paul Dans, director of the Heritage Foundation-led Project 2025, is stepping down, Heritage Foundation President Kevin Roberts announced Tuesday. Roberts confirmed the project’s policy drafting phase would conclude after this year’s party conventions, aligning with their initial timeline.
“Paul, who built the project from scratch and bravely led this endeavor over the past two years, will be departing the team and moving up to the front where the fight remains,” Roberts said, praising Dans’ dedication and leadership.
Dans, formerly chief of staff at the Office of Personnel Management under Trump, exits as Democrats target Project 2025 in their campaign against Republicans. The project aims to guide the next conservative administration with a 900-page policy blueprint and a personnel bank.
Trump’s campaign, distancing itself from Project 2025, has criticized its stance on certain issues. Senior adviser Chris LaCivita labeled the project “a pain in the a–” at a recent event. Following news of Dans’ departure, Trump’s campaign reiterated their disassociation from the project, welcoming reports of its potential demise.
Despite the Daily Beast’s report suggesting the project’s shutdown, a source close to Project 2025 refuted this. Roberts commended Dans’ work, noting, “Project 2025 has completed exactly what it set out to do.”
