The Department of Homeland Security announced Tuesday it deported over 500 people and arrested more than 400 others during a weeklong immigration enforcement operation in the Houston area. The effort involved multiple federal and state agencies, including ICE, CBP, the FBI, and the Texas Department of Public Safety.

ICE Houston Field Director Bret Bradford said the initiative will reduce taxpayer costs by speeding the removal of individuals already ordered deported. DHS highlighted five cases, including two immigrants with homicide convictions and another convicted of sexually exploiting a minor, but did not provide an overall breakdown of alleged crimes.

According to TRAC, a nonprofit data tracker, the national daily average of deportations under Trump dropped 11% compared to the Biden era. ICE has not consistently published data since January.

Immigrant rights groups, including America’s Voice, criticized the Trump administration for stoking fear. “The vast majority of immigrants are here making meaningful contributions,” said executive director Vanessa Cárdenas.
