The Department of Homeland Security has notified more than 531,000 immigrants, paroled into the United States during the Biden administration, that their stay is ending and they must depart or face deportation. A U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) spokesperson confirmed the notifications, which were issued between March 28 and March 31.

Immigrants were advised to use the CBP One app to inform the government of their departure plans. The notices follow the Trump administration’s announcement to terminate parole for individuals from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela admitted under the Biden-era CHNV program.

“The termination of the CHNV parole programs… is a return to common sense policies,” DHS stated. It accused the previous administration of enabling loosely vetted entries and contributing to public safety concerns.

At GE Appliance Park in Louisville, Kentucky, around 200 workers reportedly received deportation alerts. Union president Heather Atkinson criticized the action, calling on the administration to restore affected individuals’ statuses.

Parolees had been granted two-year work authorization under the program, which aimed to reduce illegal border crossings by providing legal pathways through vetted air travel.
