The Department of Homeland Security announced Thursday it has detained Mexican boxer Julio César Chávez Jr. for expedited removal from the U.S., citing an active arrest warrant in Mexico and alleged ties to organized crime. Chávez, the son of boxing legend Julio César Chávez, recently lost a 10-round bout to Jake Paul.

DHS claimed Chávez is affiliated with the Sinaloa Cartel and accused him of firearm trafficking and other organized crime activity. Officials said he previously entered the U.S. on a tourist visa, later filed for permanent residency through marriage, and made “fraudulent statements” in his application.

“This criminal illegal alien… will not be shielded by fame,” said DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin. “Under President Donald Trump, no one is above the law.”

Chávez’s attorney, Michael Goldstein, told ESPN he was unaware of the detention location but confirmed they were due in court Monday. DHS said he had previously been arrested in the U.S. on DUI and weapons charges.
