Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is set to support former President Donald Trump’s fundraising campaign in the upcoming weeks. This move follows a pledge made during a recent meeting with Trump, signaling a political alliance between the two Republicans. DeSantis is leveraging his extensive donor network, with plans for events in Florida and Texas, although details are yet to be finalized.

The collaboration marks a shift from previous months when Trump mockingly referred to DeSantis as “DeSanctimonious,” and DeSantis suggested Trump’s political era was over. Now, DeSantis’s fundraising prowess is seen as a strategic asset that could benefit his own potential presidential bid in 2028, should Trump win the 2024 election and be barred from another term by constitutional limits.

Roy Bailey, a prominent Dallas investor and former co-chair of DeSantis’s finance committee, expressed confidence that DeSantis’s commitment to Trump would inspire donors to follow suit, particularly targeting those who previously supported DeSantis but have not yet contributed to Trump.

In his 2022 reelection campaign, DeSantis demonstrated his fundraising capability by amassing over $183 million for his primary campaign and more than $200 million for his Florida gubernatorial campaign. His spokesperson, Taryn Fenske, confirmed active efforts to organize fundraising initiatives for Trump and other Republican candidates, reflecting a concerted effort to strengthen the party’s financial standing ahead of the elections.
