Thousands gathered at Franklin Park in Washington, D.C., on Saturday for the People’s March, organized by a coalition including the Women’s March. The event, held days before President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration, highlighted issues ranging from women’s rights to climate action.
Kim Wozniak, a small business owner, marched fearing Trump’s proposed tariffs could harm her art supply business. “If he starts tariffing us, my small family business might not survive,” she said.
Rallygoers chanted slogans like “Trust Black women!” and held signs such as “Love more Trump less” and “My body my choice.” Speakers, including Sierra Club executive director Ben Jealous, criticized Trump’s policies and vowed continued resistance.
Organizers expected 50,000 participants, a stark contrast to the 500,000 who attended the Women’s March in 2017. Advocates pointed to voter disengagement and new protest strategies as reasons for lower turnout.
