Third Way, a center-left think tank, is advising Democrats to steer clear of certain politically correct terms in order to connect more effectively with voters and counter President Trump’s agenda.

In a new memo addressed to “All Who Wish to Stop Donald Trump and MAGA,” the group highlights phrases such as “birthing person,” “cisgender,” “the unhoused,” and “Latinx” as language that alienates persuadable voters.

“Most Democrats do not run or govern on wildly out-of-touch social positions,” the memo states, “but voters would be excused to believe we do because of the words that come out of our mouths.”

The document urges Democrats to choose language that “invites, not repels” and cautions against using terms that make voters feel confused or threatened. It stresses that many people distrust words they don’t understand, fearing cancellation or backlash for misusing them.

The recommendations echo calls from Democratic lawmakers like Rep. Elissa Slotkin (D-Mich.), who has urged her party to drop abstract terms and avoid being seen as “weak and woke.”

The memo arrives as Trump intensifies his rollback of diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives and directs federal agencies to avoid “woke” terminology.
