A new report from Decision Desk HQ suggests Gen Z men are shifting toward the GOP, raising alarms among Democrats ahead of the 2026 midterms. The analysis of voter registration across 31 states found Democratic affiliation among young white men has dropped from 49 percent historically to 29 percent. Among young non-white men, Democratic registration fell from 66 percent to 54 percent. By contrast, young women — especially women of color — have largely remained aligned with Democrats.
Democratic pollster Ben Tulchin noted that recent surveys show young women backing Democrats by wide margins, while Republicans now hold a slight edge with young men. He argued Democrats could regain support by focusing on economic issues, including the impact of tariffs and rising living costs.
Polling expert John Della Volpe said Democrats must directly challenge Trump’s promises to deliver financial stability for young men, warning that dissatisfaction with the GOP doesn’t guarantee Democratic gains.
Party organizers, including College Democrats president Sunjay Muralitharan, urged Democrats to boost campus organizing with high-profile speakers to counter conservative figures like the late activist Charlie Kirk.
