Several Democrats in competitive House districts are distancing themselves from President Biden, raising concerns about his impact on their races. Reps. Jared Golden (D-Maine) and Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (D-Wash.) expressed doubts about Biden’s chances, while Adam Frisch, running for Rep. Lauren Boebert’s (R-Colo.) seat, called for Biden to withdraw.

Amid growing speculation that more Democrats will ask Biden to step aside, The New York Times reported Biden has been consulting allies, a claim the White House disputes. A House Democrat anonymously stated, “We’ve got frontliners who, even before this, would have been trying to distance themselves from Biden anyway.”

Biden’s campaign has tried to reassure Democrats, but recent polls show Trump widening his lead. The New York Times/Siena College poll has Trump at 49% to Biden’s 43%, while The Wall Street Journal shows a 6-point lead for Trump. With vulnerable Senate seats and a challenging House map, Democrats are under pressure to manage resources effectively amid fears Biden’s candidacy could hurt down-ballot races.
