Rep. Bennie Thompson, who led the January 6 committee, accused Trump of sending a conspiracy-driven mob to disrupt the peaceful transfer of power for the first time in U.S. history. A retired Capitol police officer, Aquilino Gonell, recounted the physical and emotional toll of defending the Capitol, calling out Trump for inciting the attack.
