Rep. Bennie Thompson, who led the January 6 committee, accused Trump of sending a conspiracy-driven mob to disrupt the peaceful transfer of power for the first time in U.S. history. A retired Capitol police officer, Aquilino Gonell, recounted the physical and emotional toll of defending the Capitol, calling out Trump for inciting the attack.
A powerful image from the night was of Rep. Andy Kim, who was shown picking up debris in the Capitol hours after the riot. Kim emphasized the need for collective effort to heal the nation, reflecting on the lessons of January 6.
