Defense secretary nominee Pete Hegseth reportedly paid $50,000 to settle a 2017 sexual assault allegation from a woman, identified as Jane Doe, who claims the incident occurred at a Republican conference in Monterey, California. Despite the controversy, Hegseth cleared a procedural Senate vote and faces a full confirmation vote. Two GOP senators oppose him, leaving him with a narrow margin. Hegseth also faces accusations of workplace misconduct, including financial mismanagement and heavy drinking, all of which he denies.
