A New York court adjourned President-elect Donald Trump’s Nov. 26 sentencing in his criminal hush money case, citing no reason for the delay. Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg faced a Tuesday deadline to recommend how the case should proceed, as Justice Juan Merchan considers whether the Supreme Court’s ruling on presidential immunity impacts sentencing.
Trump, convicted in May of 34 felony counts tied to a $130,000 payment to Stormy Daniels before the 2016 election, denies the charges, calling the trial politically motivated. Bragg’s options include immediate sentencing, delaying until Trump leaves office in 2029, or vacating the conviction.
Legal experts suggest sentencing may not occur soon, with Trump set to reenter the Oval Office on Jan. 20.
