A young conservative has criticized Charlie Kirk, founder and president of Turning Point USA, over “toxic leadership.” Turning Point, the largest and fastest-growing conservative youth activist organization, was founded by Kirk, a supporter of former President Donald Trump.

In an opinion piece published by the Washington Examiner titled “Turning Point is harming the conservative movement,” Ben Rothove, a conservative and fellow at the publication, highlighted controversies surrounding Turning Point and Kirk. Rothove warned that if the “toxic leadership” continues, the organization “will need to be purged.”

Newsweek has reached out to Kirk for comment. Rothove wrote, “Turning Point, as it now stands, is doing far more harm than good for the conservative movement… If Turning Point’s toxic leadership continues down the unfortunate ideological path it is heading, it will need to be purged too.”

Rothove criticized the recent “People’s Convention” in Detroit for hosting controversial speakers like Alex Jones, Jack Posobiec, and Candace Owens. He noted the event’s audience skewed older, despite Turning Point’s youth focus.

He also mentioned personnel issues and criticized Kirk’s purchase of a $4.75 million mansion, referencing RNC committee member Oscar Brock’s comment that Turning Point is “all about making money.”

Rothove pointed out that a TPUSA ambassador was fired for posting anti-Semitic remarks on X, formerly Twitter.
