With a history of divisive remarks and a reputation for being combative, Kristi Burton Brown has been chosen as the new leader of the Colorado Republican Party. Brown has been a vocal supporter of former president Donald Trump and has refuted the outcome of the 2020 election.

Republicans who believe her divisive rhetoric could further hurt the party’s chances in future elections have criticized her election. Brown, however, has defended her track record and promised to work to expand the party’s support and retake control of the state’s government. Her victory comes as the Colorado GOP faces a difficult fight in a state that has recently tended to lean more Democratic.
