Republican Congresswoman Claudia Tenney (R-N.Y.) has nominated former President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, highlighting his role in the Abraham Accords. The Accords, a significant diplomatic achievement, normalized relations between Israel, Bahrain, and the United Arab Emirates. Tenney’s nomination follows shortly after a tragic incident involving the death of three Army soldiers in Jordan.
In her statement, Tenney emphasized Trump’s success in breaking long-standing diplomatic barriers in the Middle East, a region historically fraught with conflict. She noted that Trump’s efforts challenged the prevailing belief that peace in the region was contingent on resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
Trump, a leading figure in the GOP, has received multiple Nobel Peace Prize nominations in the past. In 2022, he was nominated by a Norwegian official for his role in fostering UAE-Israel relations and also received a nomination from four Australian law professors.
Tenney criticized President Biden’s international leadership as “weak,” contrasting it with Trump’s “strong leadership” and peace efforts. She expressed hope for Trump to gain recognition from the Nobel Peace Prize Committee.
Nominations for the Nobel Peace Prize can be submitted by professors and members of national governments and assemblies, with the winner to be announced in October.
