The California Highway Patrol has offered to provide security for former Vice President Kamala Harris after President Donald Trump revoked her Secret Service protection, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Harris’s detail is set to end Sept. 1 under a directive Trump issued Thursday to the Department of Homeland Security. Former vice presidents typically receive protection for six months after leaving office, though President Biden had extended Harris’s coverage for a year before leaving office. Presidents continue to receive lifetime Secret Service protection.

The CHP offer came following discussions between Gov. Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass. “This is another act of revenge following a long list of political retaliation,” Bass told The Hill, vowing to work with Newsom to ensure Harris’s safety.

The CHP declined to comment on security details, and Newsom’s office has not yet confirmed whether the state will approve the protection.
