Former National Security Adviser John Bolton accused former President Trump of pursuing a “retribution campaign” by revoking Secret Service protection for his critics, including Bolton and former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo. In a NewsNation interview, Bolton said, “This is part of the retribution campaign.”
Bolton’s protection was reinstated by President Biden in 2021 after threats from Iran, including a 2022 DOJ charge against an Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) member for a murder-for-hire plot targeting him. Pompeo and former Trump aide Brian Hook, both known for their hawkish Iran stances, also lost their security this week.
Trump defended the decision, stating, “We’re not going to have security on people for the rest of their lives.” Bolton emphasized that security was warranted due to threats linked to his official duties, particularly the 2020 killing of Iranian General Qassem Soleimani.
