Former President Bill Clinton expressed openness to discussing a preemptive pardon for his wife, Hillary Clinton, with President Joe Biden if the topic were raised. Speaking on The View, Clinton addressed concerns about political retribution under a potential second term of former President Donald Trump.

When host Sunny Hostin asked if President Biden should consider preemptive pardons for potential targets, including Hillary Clinton, Clinton responded, “I think if President Biden wanted to talk to me about that, I will talk to him about it, but I don’t think I should be giving public advice on the pardon power. It’s a very personal thing, but … I hope [Trump] won’t do that.”

It was a made-up phone story,” he said.

Reports indicate Biden has discussed using the pardon power to protect critics of Trump who could face potential legal targeting in the future.
