President Joe Biden and the Democratic National Committee have achieved a significant fundraising milestone, accumulating over $97 million in the final quarter of 2023. This surge was propelled by a series of high-profile fundraising events in December, a crucial period when the focus was shifting towards the 2024 Republican presidential primary. Since its inception in April 2023, the Biden campaign has raised a total of $235 million, concluding the year with $117 million in cash – a record amount for a Democratic candidate at this stage in the election cycle. The campaign attracted contributions from more than 520,000 donors, totaling over 926,000 donations in the quarter alone.

Julie Chavez Rodriguez, Biden’s reelection campaign manager, emphasized the grassroots nature of this fundraising effort, linking it to the defense of democracy and fundamental rights in the 2024 elections. President Biden has consistently framed his campaign around the defense of democratic values, countering Donald Trump’s “Make America Great Again” movement, which he views as a significant threat.

Biden’s recent visit to Pennsylvania, diverging from his usual speech format, focused on illustrating the positive impact of his economic policies on small businesses and employment, despite concerns over inflation. This contrasts with Trump and his primary opponents, like Nikki Haley and Ron DeSantis, who were campaigning in Iowa amidst challenging weather conditions.

A remarkable 97% of the Biden campaign’s Q4 donations were under $200, with an average donation of $41.88. The campaign’s robust fundraising efforts, including events with celebrities like James Taylor and Steven Spielberg, have surpassed those of previous Democratic campaigns and even exceeded Barack Obama’s fundraising in the same period of 2011. Biden’s campaign outperformed its own expectations, originally aiming for a $67 million Q4 target.
